You simply won’t find better maps than the Slingsby Maps range! I have a number of them and spend hours poring over them dreaming of the next adventure!
The maps are extremely detailed, and almost all of the better-known trails are clearly marked on them. Most of them, like the Silvermine map, have detailed descriptions of the most popular routes on the back.
I always pop one in my pack when I go hiking, not only for my own safety, but also to be able to help others out if they are uncertain of their way: it is much easier and far more reassuring to point out a route on a map than it is to wave your hands vaguely in explanation..
The maps are made of waterproof “paper” meaning you can use them in all weather (and wipe them clean if the kids get hold of them!).
I have collected:
- Baviaanskloof
- Cape Point
- Cederberg
- Silvermine
- Silvermine and Hout Bay
- Simon’s Town
- Table Mountain
I have found them for sale at Cape Union Mart, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and Exclusive Books. I think I have yet to see a store stock the entire range of up-to-date maps, so your best bet may well be to purchase them online at www.themaps.co.za
