Swellendam

Bontebok (Damaliscus pygargus pygarus) in the Bontebok National Park, Swellendam

Swellendam is the fourth oldest town in South Africa, and was at one stage declared a republic!

Swellendam lies just north of the N2 about 220km from Cape Town in the Overberg region. The N.G. Kerk has rather unusual architecture, while the rest of the town boasts plenty of more traditional Cape-Dutch architecture.

The Bontebok National Park lies just outside the town.
