Hartenbos holiday home name

Hartenbos is another seaside holiday town that has managed to escape being converted to another “Sandton-by-the-Sea”.

Originally a farm owned by the South African Railways and used as a holiday destination for their lower rung employees, the farm was later purchased by the ATKV who developed the area as a destination for Afrikaners.

The influence is still marked even in post-Apartheid South African as is evident in street and house names, the Hartenbos Museum and the Saturday morning boeremark.

What to do

  • stroll along the ATKV Wandelpad and read the poetry
  • visit the local boeremark
  • parkrun Hartenbos on a Saturday morning
