Hartenbos is another seaside holiday town that has managed to escape being converted to another “Sandton-by-the-Sea”.
Where to stay
We stayed at the Hartenbos ATKV Strandoord.

What to do
- stroll along the ATKV Wandelpad and read the poetry
- visit the local boeremark
- parkrun Hartenbos on a Saturday morning

History & culture
Originally a farm owned by the South African Railways and used as a holiday destination for their lower-rung employees, the farm was later purchased by the ATKV who developed the area as a destination for Afrikaners.
The influence is still marked even in post-Apartheid South African as is evident in street and house names, the Hartenbos Museum and the Saturday morning boeremark.
