The Garden Route National Park consists of 3 separate sections: Tsitsikamma Section, Knysna Lakes, & Wilderness Section, and is managed by SANParks.
The Garden Route has been my holiday destination for all my life, and I lived in Knysna for two years. It has only been in more recent years that I have started to experience the wild areas in this beautiful region, and then mostly through sporting events such as the Otter African Trail Run and the Merrell Eden Duo.
For me, this National Park best represents how we can mix human settlements and activities with nature conservation efforts, both in the make-up of the park and in the way it is utilised. Park users and local communities benefit when opportunities for sporting activities and events are successfully integrated into conservation areas.
