The Garden Route National Park consists of 3 separate sections: Tsitsikamma Section, Knysna Lakes, & Wilderness Section, and is managed by SANParks.
The Garden Route has been my holiday destination for all my life, and I lived in Knysna for two years. It has only been in more recent years that I have started to experience the wild areas in this beautiful region, and then mostly through sporting events such as the Otter African Trail Run and the Merrell Eden Duo.
For me this National Park symbolises how we can mix human settlements and activities with nature conservation efforts, both in the make-up of the park, and in the way it is utilised. With opportunities for sporting activities and sporting events to be successfully integrated into conservation areas, both park users and local communities benefit.
Where to stay:
- Storms River Mouth Rest Camp
- Wilderness Ebb-and-Flow Rest Camp
- Nature’s Valley Rest Camp / De Vasselot Rest Camp
- Diepwalle Forest Timber Camping Decks
