Nuwerust Rest Camp

We stayed at Nuwerust over the Easter weekend. The behaviour of our neighbours spoiled the experience for us, though in fairness I suspect that many campsites see a slightly rowdier crowd over this time.

Getting there: from Ceres main road (reset your odometer) travel north on the R303 up the Gydo Pass, passing through Prince Alfred Hamlet (8km) and Op die Berg (44km). Turn right onto the R355 which becomes a gravel road (62km) passing the Stargrow Apple Nursery (74km) and Mount Ceder (96km). When your odometer reads 107km you will reach the signposted turn-off to Nuwerust and 1km and 2 farm gates later you will arrive at your destination. Alternatively, from Cape Town, head north on the N7, passing Porterville then Citrusdal. About 25km after Citrusdal you will find the turn-off to Algeria on the right. Follow the good dirt road over the Nieuwoudts Pass, passing Driehoek, Dwarsrivier, Sanddrif, Matjiefontein and Cederberg Oasis. Turn left at the sign for Nuwerus Rest Camp.

There is a shop at the Reception with the basics: wood, ice, sugar and more.

There is a large farm dam-style swimming pool. The nearby river did not seem to offer any spots suitable for swimming.

Ablutions are large and clean.
