Buffalo Bay

Buffalo Bay bathing beach on a summer day.

Buffalo Bay (or “Buffs”as the locals call it — short for the Afrikaans “Buffelsbaai”) is an adorable seaside holiday village that has not outgrown its charm like so many others along the Garden Route.

Getting there: the turnoff on the N2 to Buffalo Bay is in the valley midway between Sedgefield and Knysna.
GPS Co-ordinates: -34.086329, 22.973985

There is a small supermarket as well as a restaurant with an amazing deck overlooking the beach.

The main swimming beach offers safe swimming with lifeguards on duty (seasonal). There are ablutions and showers.

There is a grassed area with braai facilities between the shoreline and the road that leads to the caravan park.

Where to stay

There are two caravan parks, Buffelskop Caravan Park (Knysna Municipality), and Buffalo Bay Caravan Park, as well as loads of houses to rent. The names of the houses are entertaining in themselves, and you may well choose to stay in “Buckingham Pêles
