Peregrine Farmstall has been there for as long as I can remember. It is possible a little close to Cape Town for a road stop on the way to your destination, but it is well placed for the return trip, and is the perfect opportunity to stretch those legs before hitting the often congested Sir Lowry’s Pass as well as an opportunity to fill hungry tummies (and possibly avoid having to make dinner when you get home).
Getting there: take the N2 over Sir Lowry’s Pass, turn in on the right just before the Elgin/Grabouw turnoff
GPS Coordinates: -34.16394, 19.03480
It has become an institution, and I know of people who have driven from Cape Town just for the venison pies! The shelves are packed with homemade, home-baked, fresh goodness; I watched as they brought out trays of quiches which were snapped up by waiting shoppers.
The Red Tractor Café is the restaurant adjoining where you can enjoy sit-down meals if you are in need of a longer stop.
