Maillon

I always carry a maillon on my harness as the cheapest piece of gear to leave behind if you have to beat a retreat off the rock!

Quite some time ago I attempted a route a Sanddrif Crag that I could not complete. This required the sacrifice of a carabiner off one of my quickdraws to abseil back down to the ground. Since then, I have had at least one maillon permanently attached to my climbing harness for this reason.
