The annual Knysna Lagoon Challenge takes place during the Knysna Oyster Festival, and is one of the Knysna Big 5 Challenge options for the first Sunday of the challenge.

The canoe race is a lapped race incorporating the Knysna Heads, Thesen Island and the Waterfront and also features a Stand-Up Paddle race. I took part in the 2013 event and loved the views of Knysna from the water.
- 22km paddle: the main race K1
- 10km paddle: Juniors / Fun Race (any crafts welcome)
- Kiddies Guppie race for under 12′s
- SUP race – 6 km / 10km
