This is a super easy walk or run along the Pipe-track above Camps Bay; perfect for a lazy Sunday morning. We headed out to Lion’s Head on a Sunday morning but were put off by the crowds, so headed instead for an easy walk along the Pipe-track. We were rewarded with sunny views of Table Mountain, Camps Bay and Lion’s Head.
Getting there: park in the parking lot at the SANParks Table Mountain info center at the top of Kloof Nek.
GPS Coordinates: -33.94296, 18.39549
Distance: 6.4km
Difficulty: comfortable walking on easy-to-follow-trail
From the parking lot down the road towards Kloof Nek traffic circle, crossing the road when you get there. There is a tap here if you need to fill your water bottles. Head up the stairs that go up the slope; there will be a fence on your left-hand side. Keep on going until you reach the base of Kasteelspoort which is signposted and has a plinth with a map of the trails in the area.
You will of course see the pipe all along the way; this pipe carries water from the dams on top of Table Mountain to the water treatment plant that you will pass near the beginning of your walk.
We saw Pelargoniums and loads of Watsonias.
It was fairly hot and there is no shade except for under the last remaining Stone pines scattered about on the first half of the walk.
