On one of many trips to Riversdale I headed up into the Garcia State Forest to enjoy riding the plantation roads amongst the endless acres of pine trees.

Getting there: drive North from Riversdale on the R323 towards Garcia’s Pass. Take a right into the plantation.

I encountered 2 troupes of Chacma baboons playing in the sun on the roads between the tall shade of the pine plantation. It was refreshing to see them bolt for cover as I approached, unlike the overly-relaxed troupes on the Cape Peninsula.

There was loads of water around and I got wet cold feet riding through large puddles of fresh mountain water.

I didn’t see a single other person on my ride, nor did I se any evidence of single-track, which is a pity as the area has so much potential! I understand that the inaugural Hessequa MTB Challenge to be held 04 May 2013 will pass through the area.
