Jacques has ambushed me many a time on the trails, heavily armed with his camera, and always with an encouraging word and a laugh. You won’t see Jacques at the end of the route taking finishers pictures: Jacques will find his way to the furthest sections of the trail up the highest peaks, getting the best action shots. I suspect if we could get him to ditch the heavy equipment and keep him pointed down the trail instead of looking up it, he would be a serious contender!
I was hugely excited to receive a copy of Jacques Marais’ new book, “Trail Runner’s Guide”, in the mail! Coupled with Jacques stunning images, the trail community now has a serious handbook available, with heaps of crucial information on the South Africa’s treasure chest of trails.
The book is suited to trail runners of all levels: novices looking for solid advice, the weekend adventurer looking for new territory, the seasoned mountain goat looking for the next route to conquer, or the racing snake planning the racing year ahead.
I have only had a chance to browse through it briefly so far, so will update this post once I can say more than that the photos are incredible, and you will be faced with an epic struggle: how to put the book down long enough to go out there and get some trail under you!
In the interest of transparency: I received a complimentary copy of this book.
