I was hugely excited to receive a copy of Jacques Marais’ new book, “Trail Runner’s Guide”, in the mail! Coupled with Jacques stunning images, the trail community now has a serious handbook available, with heaps of crucial information on the South Africa’s treasure chest of trails. Cape Town trail running groups

As spoilt as we are, living with Table Mountain on our doorstep, it is unsafe to venture on the mountain alone, and many trail runners (especially the ladies) are prevented from enjoying the endless kilometers of world-class trail on offer. Fortunately the trail running community has grown in leaps and bounds in the last few years. Not only do we have a fledgeling trail running association in the Western Cape, but we have a number of active trail running groups providing the opportunity for anyone who is moderately fit to join an organised run.

Waterproof Trail Running Jackets: is there a solution?

After receiving a query asking for reccommendations with regards waterproof jackets for trail running, I thought I would put togther some of my thoughts on this matter .As you well know, many of the trail runs now require you to carry a waterproof jacket and not just a shell. The grounds for this requirement is that a shell will keep you warm enough whilst you are moving, it will not be enough to keep you warm should you have to stop for any reason, such as in the event of an injury.

CAPESTORM A3 Shorts

The material and the liner feel even lighter and more comfortable than that of the Kinetic if that is even possible! In the Hi-Tec Otter African Trail Run 2010 only the hem of my shorts got wet at the Bloukrans crossing. At this years race I was chest deep, so the A3 shorts got a good swim, and unlike the Kinetic shorts which chaffed a fair amount, there was no chaffing at all from the A3’s, and they remained extremely comfortable, and dried rapidly.
