Rated as one of South Africa’s top XTERRA athletes, Stuart Marais (Stellenbosch) is ready for a new challenge as he prepares to take on the 2013 Durbanville Triathlon on Saturday, 04 May 2013.
Theresa Lozier sent through the following letter from the winner of the 2012 Knysna Big 5 Challenge, Stuart Marais. The first time I saw Stuart racing was at last year’s Durbanville Triathlon. Amongst other titles, he is the reigning Totalsports Challenge champion. This is what he had to say about his 2012 experience.
Dan Hugo raced himself onto a drip at last year’s Totalsports Challenge as he successfully defended his title against the upstart newcomer to the race, Stuart Marais. Hopefully fully recovered from a bad accident last year, Dan will now certainly have Stuart on his radar, and will not be willing to break his string of Totalsports Challenge victories. Stuart will have learned some lessons from last year and will no doubt have a revised strategy in place for his second assault on Dan’s reign. I almost wish I were a spectator on the day to see this battle go down!
