Slanghoek Triathlon 2013

The annual Slanghoek Triathlon presents 4 on- and off-road triathlons of different distances. I took part in the Short MTB in 2012, and I rate this event as one of the best organised sporting events I have participated in to-date. This year’s date has just been announced.

Where: Breeland Cellar, Slanghoek Valley
When: 27 October 2013
Distances: Road (1.2km | 52km | 12km); Long MTB: (1.2km | 33km | 12km); Short MTB: (600m | 15km | 7km); Junior Race: (400m | 10km | 2.5km)

Getting there: From Cape Town, take the N1 towards Worcester. Pass through the tunnel and as you exit the mountains, take the Rawsonville turn-off to your right. Follow the road till you get to a two-way intersection, turn left towards Slanghoek (Goudini Spa).  A bridge will take you over the N1 towards Slanghoek valley.  Follow this road for 6km and Slanghoek Cellar will be situated on your right with Breeland Cellar on your left. Follow the parking signs.
GPS Coordinates: -33.65039, 19.22769

This is an incredibly well organised triathlon at a breathtaking venue in the winelands. Temperatures in the valley can make racing extra challenging! The swim is in a safe dam making this a great race for a beginner who is nervous for the open-water aspect of competing in triathlons.

Entries open 01 August 2013.
