I bought a Ryder Centauri 1000 Light System for the Merrell Eden Duo 24-Hour Adventure Race. Don’t think for a second that you will get away with putting a headlamp on your helmet for mountain biking at night: you need to invest in something more powerful to light your way through the obstacles!
I used the light with great success on the adventure race where the sun set just as we left on the second MTB leg of the race. I also use the light on my Scott Addict road bike for pre-dawn road sessions to both light the road surface, and increase my visibility to motorists. With the Centauri 1000 on strobe on the front of the bike, and my Cateye TL-170-R Red Rear Light on the rear, I look like a low-flying aircraft. A very slow one. The battery is in a pouch that has velcro straps with which to attach the pack to the frame of the bike. The cable is long so you could mount it pretty much anywhere — I mount mine under the top tube directly behind the head tube. A helmet mount is included in the pack, and once again, the cable is long enough that it would reach from helmet to bike frame. Features:
- LED with 1000 Lumen output
- Hard anodised aluminium body
- Rechargeable Li-ion battery pack
- Battery level indicator
- 4 modes: high, medium, low beam, strobe
- 3 to 30 hour runtime
- 220V battery charger
- battery pouch
- 3 mounting O-rings for handlebar mount
- helmet mount
- IP65 waterproof rating
- protective travel case
