Silvermine

Silvermine Dam ablutions

Silvermine falls within the Table Mountain National Park. It is found at the top of Ou Kaapse Weg which splits the reserve into Silvermine East and Silvermine West. I have many childhood memories of family braais at the reservoir in the West side.

Silvermine West

In recent years the facilities have been upgraded: there are stunning boardwalks around the reservoir, and the ablution facilities have been upgraded and are well-constructed eco-friendly affairs.

Back in the day, it was forbidden to swim in the reservoir; now it is allowed. The southern side was a pine plantation; the pines were burned down in a fire and the fynbos was encouraged to re-establish themselves. Braai and picnic areas surround the reservoir.

Things to do:

Silvermine East

Silvermine East is less developed. There are some beautiful walks, many of which offer spectacular views across False Bay. The fynbos in this area is especially rich.

Things to do:

  • Hiking & trail running
    • Hike to the waterfall
