The Greyton Nature Reserve nestles up against the mountains behind the small hamlet of Greyton.
Getting there: follow the Main Road through town in the opposite direction from which you arrived on the N2. At the end of the road take a left into Nerina Street, and at the end of Nerina Street take a right into Park Street. The Greyton Nature Reserve is at the end of this road.

The small reserve has the most magnificent King proteas I have ever seen. Massive and perfectly formed, they are breathtaking in their rugged beauty: massive pink bracts literally forming the crowing glory of the floral kingdom of the Western Cape. On my most recent visit (June 2012) I was greatly upset to see that a fire had burned down this beautiful stand of proteas. I guess fire is an integral part of the life cycle of proteas and fynbos in general.
There are a number of fairly easy walks in the Reserve, such as the Noupoort Walk. There is a small dam on the river, unfortunately, swimming is not allowed.
