A unique feature of the reserve is that most of the trails start and end with a trip across the Goukamma River by hand-drawn pont.

The grassed area on the banks of the river features picnic benches and braai places. There is safe swimming in the warm water of the river.

The reserve is on the road to the popular seaside village of Buffalo Bay. There is a small, well-stocked supermarket as well as a restaurant.
