Wilderness Section

The Wilderness Section of the Garden Route National Park stretches from the Touw River mouth to the Swartvlei estuary and beyond, where it links with the Goukamma Nature Reserve. It includes five lakes and The Serpentine, which is the winding strip of water joining Island Lake to the Touw River at the Ebb & Flow Rest Camp.

I camped at Ebb & Flow for the Merrell Eden Duo Adventure Race 2011 which started and finished with paddling legs on the Touw River.

Where to stay:

The Ebb-and-Flow Rest Camp lies along the banks of the Touw River, and offers cottages, cabins and camp-sites.

There are rondawels and cabins at Goukamma.

There are a number of shortish hikes and walks in the area:

  1. Half Collared Kingfisher Trail
  2. Giant Kingfisher Trail
  3. Pied Kingfisher Trail
  4. Brown Hooded Kingfisher Trail
  5. Cape Dune Molerat Trail
