MEDIA RELEASE APRIL 2013

NEW BALANCE IMPI CHALLENGE SUPPORTS THE WOODSIDE SPECIAL CARE CENTRE

The organisers of the adrenaline pumping New Balance IMPI Challenge are proud to continue their support of the Woodside Special Care Centre.

Situated in Rondebosch East the Woodside Special Care Centre is a private residential home for intellectually and physically disabled children and young adults.  Established in 1976 the Centre offers a wide range of services designed to promote the development of each of its children.

According to Hayley Weinberg, New Balance IMPI Challenge Operations Manager, in order for it to continue its remarkable work the Woodside Special Care Centre requires funding.  “Through the support of our IMPI Challengers we are able to provide the Centre with much needed resources.  Our most recent donation included medical supplies for their recovery room, named the IMPI Recovery Room.  The supplies included muscle rubs, nebulisers, blood pressure machines, bandages, plasters and additional supplies requested by the Centre.   The value of the donation came to R10 000.  It is a great joy for us to be a part of this facility and the outstanding, selfless work that they do for others,” says Weinberg.

“Being affiliated to the New Balance IMPI Challenge not only brings in much needed funds and supplies, but also goes a long way towards raising our profile via the media coverage that we receive” says Cheryl Beaton, Funding Development/PR Woodside Special Care Centre.   “The IMPI Challenge is really awesome and we admire the athletes that take part, they are able to put their bodies to the test in a really physically challenging way while having fun and adventure.  The extreme opposite of the IMPI Challenge to the Woodside Special Care Centre impacts on people and makes them aware of the fragility of life.  We do, however, strive to focus on the ability of our residents rather than their disability”.

The New Balance IMPI Challenge combines trail running with an adventure style obstacle course.  Challengers will need to complete 18 fun, sometimes challenging, obstacles that will be set up over 12 kilometres. Venues for the New Balance IMPI Challenge are specifically chosen for their exclusivity and ability to accommodate fun obstacles that will challenge participants both physically and mentally in the ultimate adventure challenge.
