Otter Trail

This world famous 5 day Otter Hiking Trail is a coastal masterpiece for the serious hiker to enjoy. I have run the Otter Trail Run twice.

Getting there: take the N2 east from Plettenberg Bay for 55km until you reach the gates of the Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park; drive 10km to the Storm’s River Mouth Rest Camp restaurant; follow the road westwards (in the direction of Cape Town) along the coastline. When the tar runs out you will hit the trail heading along the rocks.

At a glance

Regarded as one of the finest trails in the world, and stretching from the Storms River Mouth Rest Camp in the east to Nature’s Valley in the west, the trail falls entirely within the Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park.

The trail covers 41km in 5 days, and the 4 nights are spent in comfortable huts with superb views. Do not let the short daily distances deceive you: the trail climbs and descends continuously more than making up for the shorter distances.
