I am always on the lookout for durable, lightweight, taste-free solutions to carrying liquids on outdoor adventures: I already own a Nalgene CXC 2L Rapid Fill Bladder and recently added a Nalgene 32 Ounce Wide Mouth canteen to my collection. I now prefer it to my Laken Futura Canteen.
The mouth of the canteen is very wide, and drinking from it does take a bit of getting used to (if this puts you off, get your hands on a Nalgene Easy Sipper). The advantage however (as with the wide opening of the Rapid Fill Bladder) is that it is easy to fill with ice, and super-easy to clean!
- 1 litre capacity
- High impact resistance
- Resistant to staining and won’t retain odors
- Dishwasher safe
- Withstands temperatures of -40°C to 100°C
I subsequently bought the Glow-in-the-Dark version, and not only does it work, but it’s quite handy being able to locate your water easily in the dark without having to reach for a torch first!
Please note that the diameter of the bottle is substantially wider than most other water bottles, and may not fit into the side pouches of your pack (it does squeeze into the side pockets of my Deuter bags).
The only water bottle known to be tough enough to help save a man forced to hack off own his arm to free himself from a life-threatening situation!
