This is trail running at its best: great turn out of people at a seamlessly executed organisation on new trail in a spectacularly beautiful mountain reserve. This is Ghaleed of Running the Cape’s second trail offering and has now established himself as an organiser who is doing all the right things.
Parking at the start/finish venue is limited, so we were all bused efficiently up Franschhoek Pass to from Franschhoek Senior School parking grounds.
There were a number of well-placed Mountain Rescue teams on the route.
We headed up the valley to the saddle. Looking back down the valley, Theewaterskloof Dam was in the distance, and the nearby peaks had touches of snow.
Got into the saddle just as the 20km route leaders came down the slope on our left.
Fresh cut trail took us up to the peak.
Very steep, fairly technical descent after the summit. with Noel Erntzen showing how it’s done.
The mobii team took care of the results, and finishers photos and race results were available real-time inside the venue. Very tech-savvy.
