I opted for the Knysna Lagoon Challenge paddle rather than the Knysna Cycle Tour for my Big 5 Challenge effort on the Sunday morning. It gave me an opportunity to rest my legs, and by many accounts avoid a nerve-wrecking road race.
The route was two laps of the Knysna Lagoon, starting and ending in front of the Knysna Yacht Club, heading out to a turn-buoy in Featherbed Bay just inside the West Head and returning via brief tours of the waterways of both Thesen Island and Knysna Quays Marina.
As I still do not have a K1, I paddled my trusty Fenn Swordfish.
I managed to tag along with a group of about 4 boats tagging along behind a double ski. Somewhere early on in the second lap, there were some feathers ruffled, positions were challenged, some little surges were made, and I dropped off the bunch, not able to match the short bursts of speed.
All-in-all a solid grind in the most beautiful conditions.
