My Durbanville Triathlon 2012

The inaugural Durbanville Triathlon took place at Phisantekraal in Durbanville. I woke up early on the Saturday morning to a dark, rainy Newlands. I had promised myself I would bunk if it was going to be wet and cold, but then couldn’t seem to prevent myself from going “just in case it cleared”.

As luck would have it, the weather in the Northern Suburbs was perfect for racing: windless and cool! I arrived just before dawn to register.

The swim leg was in a relatively small dam, which most importantly, was dead calm. Apparently the water was pretty chilly, but I was wearing my Orca wetsuit and it didn’t bother me.

Both the bike and the run legs were out and back affairs on relatively flat farm roads with good surfaces. I had an especially quick little run which I feel quite smug about.

The event was organised by Raw Promo. I believe it was their first event. I have to say, it was brilliantly organised. I believe they have a series of triathlons planned, the next one will be in Caledon and is scheduled for October this year.
