The 2013 / 2014 Summer surfski season kicked off in Cape Town at Fish Hoek Lifesaving Club on Sunday morning.
I started paddling a few races into the last series. This year the series kicked off in style with new sponsors, a new timing system, and a whole heap of the usual Mocke-inspired energy. It was great to see all the usual suspects again.
The sun was out on Sunday morning and so was the tide. With the south-easter freshening as the ski-laden cars pulled into Fish Hoek Beach it was set to be a bit of a grind. The course was set with a paddle out Fish Hoek bay to a buoy just past the Glencairn Quarry where we headed out to a turn buoy and down-winded back to Fish Hoek beach. 2 laps for the long course and one for the short course.
Considering the last time I paddled was Knysna in July I had a great time on the water, but some hard work lies ahead as I try and chase my 10km/h target pace!
