My CAPESTORM Redhill Marathon 2012

A last-minute decision to enter the much talked about CAPESTORM Redhill Marathon saw me driving through to Fish Hoek Athletics Club pre-dawn Saturday morning for a last-minute entry. The race turned out to be a bit of a Tweet-Up, and I got to meet some Tweeps in person for the first time…

The route is absolutely gorgeous, starting at the Fish Hoek Athletics Club, and heading through Sun Valley before making its way to the coastline at Noordhoek, and then taking the coastal road through Scarborough toward Cape Point. @Scott_Tait and @beanker were out on their bikes, and I finally got to meet the two of them.

The marathon route then makes an out-and-back stretch towards Cape Point before rejoining the Classic route to toil up and over Redhill to Simon’s Town. On the way down the hill I bumped into @jenskordis who was out for the Classic, and chatted as we cruised back down to sea-level. @t8skor was out on his MTB supporting his missus, and he kept me company for a bit on the home-stretch.

The route then heads along the Main Road through Glencairn back to Fish Hoek and the finish. I definitely ran out of gas passing through Glencairn, and was towed in to the finish-line like a stricken oil tanker by @rushinbear in a time of 4hr18min (my slowest marathon time to-date).
