Jailhouse Rock is the first crag you reach at the Lower Silvermine Crags. It consists of 6 bolted routes, ranging from a 15 to a 19.
Getting there: I did get us lost, so maybe I shouldn’t comment here! Park at the mountain bikers’ parking lot on the way to the Silvermine Reservoir. Follow the path out the back of the parking lot, head over the jeep track and onto the trail heading up to the right toward the ridge. At the top of the ridge drop down below the rock band (don’t go too far like I did!) and follow the faint trail to the left.
As with Blaze of Glory, Jailhouse Rock provides you with some fun climbing on great rock with beautiful views, all at the price of a quick drive to Silvermine and an easy walk-in. The routes are well bolted, and the locals are extremely friendly and helpful.
Routes we climbed:
- Break-out (16)
- Suspended Sentence (15)
It’s worth remembering these crags are pretty much in full sun all day, so take the necessary precautions, and plenty of liquid.
