CAPESTORM
CAPESTORM has recently been bought out, and as such their store are closed for the time being. You can easily see I am a huge fan by checking through the many gear reviews on the site, and by seeing how often their gear is featured in my photos! I have yet to experience any problems with any of their gear, and have always experienced friendly, helpful staff in all their stores.

Cape Union Mart
Large retail chain carrying a wide range of equipment. I have also had problems with them not stocking spares etc for some of their items — but then this seems to be par for the course for South African retailers. Don’t bother shopping at any of the branches, they are poorly stocked — head straight for their massive Canal Walk store: it carries a larger selection of goods, and many items not stocked in the branches. It is heaven for any outdoor enthusiast!

CityROCK
Indoor climbing venue with plenty of routes on the climbing walls and a bouldering section. There is a fully stocked gear shop – Seven Summits / Mountain Mail Order has in fact just moved in and the two have merged! You can rent climbing shoes and harnesses if you are new to the sport (you can rent gear to use outside of the venue as well). Helpful, friendly staff add to the great camaraderie that I have found to be a hallmark of the climbing fraternity!
