I have from time-to-time seen MTB tyre-tracks on Table Mountain in places where I am pretty certain cycling is not allowed. I don’t think we can deny that mountain biking causes considerable damage to trails, and I think it’s important that this is controlled. Even areas set aside for bikes, such as Tokai, need to be carefully monitored to ensure that erosion does not become too severe.
I assume with the above in mind, a new initiative is happening which will hopefully see the key role-players engaging in conversation with a view to achieving this.

“Interested parties are invited to attend the inaugural meeting of the Table Mountain MTB Forum. The purpose of the meeting is to inform attendees on progress with establishing a forum to negotiate with SANParks and other land owners regarding the use of mountain bikes within the Table Mountain National Park. Please RSVP to email@example.com to receive a copy of the draft constitution.”
