I won a pair of Hi-Tec Trail Eruption shoes as a spot prize in the First Ascent Trail Challenge in December 2009.
My previous experiences with Hi-Tec footwear have not been great (see my reviews of the V-Lite Rapidhike Boot & V-Lite Shoe). I found the soles of their shoes to be inferior — they literally started disintegrating after a months wear.
So here is the good news: Hi-Tec is starting to use Vibram soles! I have enjoyed the Vibram soles on my Merrel Phaser Inferno’s, and am pleased to see Hi-Tec adopting these first-class soles as I always felt the Hi-Tec uppers were extremely comfortable and well-designed.
Features:
- “ion-mask hydrophobic technology” synthetic upper — means you can pretty much walk through puddles
- protective toe-cap for added protection
- reflective welding for safety
- cushioning technology for the neutral runner
- Vibram trail running out-sole
They have proven to be very comfortable from the first footsteps, and I have enjoyed them on a good few walks, and one or two trail runs, like Bat Run, where I have needed serious support.
